Geography Field Trip

The most recent GCSE Geography field trip took place on Wednesday 11th September. Study sites included Ballard Down towards Old Harry and the beach in Swanage Bay; all located at the easternmost edge of the Jurassic Coast. Students were collecting field data in preparation for their Paper 3 exam ‘Applied Fieldwork Enquiry’. The investigation questions were ‘To what extent is the coastal management sustainable?’ and ‘How far is tourism economically and environmentally sustainable?’

One student said, “There was a bit of walking but the activities were fun and the coastline and beach were amazing. I didn’t know we had coastal features like this in the UK.”

Trip leader Ms Wilkinson, Senior Leader for KS3 and Head of Geography, said, “We’re pleased to take our students to a natural World Heritage Site. The students worked hard in less than ideal conditions and enjoyed some free time too. The coastline we studied has incredible features and contrasting coastal management styles. It really is a great place for a GCSE field trip.”
