OSA Teaching & Learning

Lessons have clear and stated routines, which help students to demonstrate the right behaviours for learning. We use feedback loops as a mechanism for checking learning but also for giving students the opportunity to reflect on the lesson and what worked for them.
We believe that the following steps underpin the best lessons:

  • Welcome students, outline lesson goals and expectations
  • You Retrieve – Review previous learning
  • We Introduce – Outline lesson goals and expectations and engage students with new material
  • We Explain – Build understanding and
  • We Model – Model new ideas
  • You Practice – Offer practice with scaffolding (opportunity for live feedback / AfL) and provide further independent work
  • We Check – Obtain feedback from students to inform the next lesson
