Shakespeare for Schools Festival

On 10th November, 15 students in Years 9 – 12 took part in the Shakespeare for Schools Festival.  This was the first time that Oxford Spires has participated in this event and the students produced an incredible 30 minute version of the Shakespeare play ‘As You Like It.’

Beginning as an idea in the summer holidays, students had worked independently to create a 1930s version of the play, with music from the time as the backing to dances as well as singing live on stage.  Telling the story of Rosalind’s exile from court and her love for Orlando, the play is a comedy highlighted by disguise and confusion as she and her cousin Celia, find their way in a very different world.  The students led much of the project, rehearsals and staging ideas themselves and all credit is due to them for an excellent performance.

Thanks also to Kate Morris and Peter Sheward-Himpson for their support throughout and on the day.
